BA announced at the end of September 2007 that it would be buying new aircraft to replace the fleet of 21 Boeing 767-300 and 57 Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

The initial order was for a mixture of 12 Airbus A380 and 24 Boeing 787's. The orders also included options on another 25 aircraft in total. They will begin to arrive in the BA fleet from 2013.
