bmi (airline code BD) is the trading name for British Midland International Ltd, a scheduled airline whose headquarters are located at Donnington Hall near to East Midlands airport.

The bmi group is made up of three business units.

bmi mainline: operating UK and international services from its main hub at London Heathrow to the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa

bmi regional: operating UK and European services between regional airports.

Ownership

bmi and its subsidiaries were purchased from Lufthansa Group by British Airways' holding company International Airlines Group (IAG) in 2011 for £172.5 million. BA is likely to close the regional and bmibaby units.
