Virgin Atlantic (VA) has four different configurations of its B747-400. This one is unique in that it has four and half rows of economy class seating on the upper deck.
Seatplans.com recommends...
If going for economy class on the B747, try and get a seat on the upper deck. Economy on the main deck is in a high density 3-4-3 configuration. At ten across it's going to be a squeeze, especially if you're in the middle. On the upper deck, economy seating is 3-3, which is much more spacious.
