Unlike the bigger Boeing 747, Virgin Atlantic's Airbus A340s only permit a 1-1-1 layout in Upper Class, rather than the usual herringbone format, which gives a more exclusive feel.

Following complaints from its premium customers, Virgin moved the Upper Class bar to the back of the main suite in the cabin, but on the A340-300, there is still likely to be some disturbance to passengers seated in rows eight and nine.

The golden rule is usually to sit as far forward as possible when in the main Upper Class cabin to avoid being disturbed, especially at night, when rows 1-7 become the Sleep Zone. Lights in this section are dimmed soon after take-off and meal service is minimised. Note however that there is a washroom immediately in front of 1K.

The A340-300 also has an additional small cabin of nine Upper Class seats behind the galley in rows 14-16.
