V Australia (airline code VA), the long-haul subsidiary of Virgin Blue first flew in early 2009 with a small fleet of new Boeing 777s.  V Australia was established to cover the trans-Pacific route and, unlike its parent company, V Australia offers three classes of travel. V Australia is expected to eventually become incorporated into the umbrella brand of Virgin Australia as mentioned here.

Ownership

Virgin Blue floated on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2003. It is 25%-owned by its founders, Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group; with co-founder Brett Godfrey, staff and other investors holding the remainder of the stock.

Route Network

V Australia's inaugural route was from Sydney to Los Angeles. Its second service, from Brisbane to Los Angeles, was due to begin on April 8 2009.

V Australia offers connections via its parent airline. Virgin Blue operates from 24 Australian destinations and flies both domestic and international routes. It also flies to and within New Zealand. Its subsidiaries operate to and from Fiji, the Cook and Solomon Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu.  Virgin Blue also flies to Bali in Indonesia and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.

Other Information

V Australia is making a pitch for corporate travellers by offering a full business class cabin as well as Premium Economy. The airline was established as an open skies deal between the US and Australia was sealed and new routes are planned once V Australia's proposed fleet of seven aircraft are delivered.
