Thai Airways currently has two types of business class seats available on long-haul flights: a cradle style 'old' seat, and a new lie flat style which reclines to 170 degrees for sleeping, with each seat having telephone and laptop power point.

Entertainment is on demand and offers 30 movies, 110 CDs, information and 31 games.

The new seating is available on the A340-600, some, but not all B747-400s, B777-300 (Selected aircraft), B777-200 and B777-200ER.

At Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, Royal Silk Class passengers get access to any of six Royal Silk lounges and an exclusive check-in lounge with separate fast-track immigration channels. Lounges provide wi-fi connections in private meeting rooms and work areas.

Royal Silk Class passengers also enjoy priority reservations, baggage handling and late boarding privileges. They have a generous 66 lbs. (30kg.) baggage allowance, 125% mileage accrual with THAI’s Royal Orchid Plus frequent flyer program, plus the use of THAI and Star Alliance airport lounges worldwide.

Service on board both flights was excellent with very good food and beverages. The glass of champagne on boarding is a nice touch. The seats on the two flights were as different as chalk and cheese.
