Southwest Airlines (airline code WN) is a U.S. based low-cost airline founded in 1967 and based in Dallas, Texas.

Ownership

Southwest is a publicly traded (N.Y. Stock Exchange symbol LUV), privately held corporation. It is partially employee-owned.

Route Network

Southwest is the largest U.S. domestic airline by passenger volume and flies to 64 U.S. destinations. The airline does not fly internationally, but recently established its first code-sharing agreements with two foreign carriers, Canada's WestJet and Mexico's Volaris.

The airline uses a "point-to-point" route system rather than the traditional "hub-and-spoke" scheme. For an interactive map of Southwest's destinations, click here.
