Ryanair (airline code FR) is an Irish low-cost airline founded in 1985 that was originally set up to compete against British Airways and Aer Lingus on routes across the Irish Channel. It is now the world's biggest no-frills airline, carrying more than 75 million passengers a year, many more than BA and Aer Lingus combined.
Ownership
Ryanair is listed on the Irish Stock Exchange.
Route Network
Ryanair's largest hub is at London Stansted Airport in the UK, but it also has bases throughout Europe such as those at Frankfurt's Hahn airport and Stockholm's Skavsta airport. To see where Ryanair flies, click here.
Other information
Ryanair is the model on which all major budget airlines are built, but it is the most intent on cutting out costs to offer a very low (in some cases, entirely free) headine fare, so expect to pay for most things that used to be provided free, such as checked-in baggage.
