Lufthansa's new first class flat bed took to the skies from April 2011, initially on ten refitted B747-400s before being rolled out across the entire B747-400 fleet.

The innovative new seats, essentially a chair with a bed next to it (see pictures), replaced the old first class offering on the upper deck of Lufthansa's jumbojets. Capacity on the upper deck is now go from just eight (1-1 in four rows) instead of teh old 16. The bed is now in place of the old window seats.
