LAN (airline code LA) is a Chilean airline founded in 1929.
LAN was originally an abbreviation of 'Lineas Aereas Nacionales de Chile', however the name was officially changed simply to LAN in 2004 to reflect its alliance with other carriers including LAN Peru and LAN Ecuador.
Ownership
LAN was privatised by the Chilean government in 1989, with the majority of shares being sold to Icarosan and the Scandinavian airline SAS.
