JohnHowe flew Egyptair Business, on a B777-300ER (05/09/2011 06:32)

Flew business class on EgyptAir B777-300ER from Bangkok to London via Cairo (20th August 2011) and return on the same route (3/4th September 2011).

I found the service to be of a reasonable quality, the staff were attentive and fulfilled every passenger request speedily. Uniforms are a bit drab though and do nothing to enhance the airline’s image.

Seating was very generous and comfortable, large screen monitors for the IFE but the choice of programmes needs to be upgraded as at present the selection is very limited.

Boarding was orderly but there was a long wait at Cairo airport.

The plane was delayed getting into London for the return part of the journey but I was offered the choice of returning to the lounge if I wanted. I declined as I felt there was no need to do so. The offer though was thoughtful.

Transfers in Egypt were fast and efficient, and the lounges of reasonable quality and within easy reach of the departure gates.

I am not a great fan of any airline’s food but what EgyptAir offered seemed comparable to many airlines.

I would use them again.

Even though travelling J class, the Lufthansa business lounge was little more than a kiosk at Munich airport - despite all the hoo hah about there being a beer hall! Must have separate lounges. The lounge was full of kids and access to computers was limited as the kids were playing online games. Even after complaints to the front desk - nothing was done for business travellers and there was no wi-fi. BEWARE. Boarding was uneventful and the J class seating was better on the 737-800 than 777-200!!! However the IFE was not functioning properly - so with agreement I moved and the problem continued. After lodging an official written complaint to the airline (never answered or acknowledged) the Purser was most apologetic - she was incredibly sorry and even showed me airline papers stating there had been problems with the IFE prior to departure. To make things worse my choice of food was limited to very tough steak which i refused to eat but was then surprised to be offered baked salmon. Once again the Purser personally attended to me. The flight was on time and access to the J class lounge was easy for my onward flight to Bangkok that evening.

Smooth check-in and excellent lounge at Bangkok's new airport complete with showers and refreshments for this late night departure. No problems boarding but the J class seats were old and quite dirty looking. IFE was ok for the night flight to Cairo. Food and juices were adequate. More attention to small stuff like an amenities kit, better fitting headsets, friendlier staff would be helpful. Arrived a bit ahead of scheduled time and easy access to J class lounge at the new Cairo terminal for my onward flight to FRA.
