Drukair (airline code KB) is the national airline of Bhutan. One of the world's smallest national carriers, Drukair's maiden flight was met by praying monks.
Ownership
The airline was founded by Royal decree in 1981 and is owned by the Bhutanese government.
Route Network
Drukair flies to Paro, about 65km outside the Bhutan capital Thimphu. The airport is located around 2,000m above sea level, surrounded by Himalayan peaks.
Drukair now serves seven cities across India, Banghladesh, Thailand and Nepal with a fleet of two Airbus A319s, the first of which arrived in 2004, and a new 48-seat ATR 42-500 turbo-prop aircraft.
Other Information
The airline is currently eyeing expansion into tourist markets after opening its doors to outside visitors only four decades ago, with possible routes to Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
There are plans to relaunch tourist flights which skim over the stunning scenery afforded by the surrounding Himalayas.
