Darwin Airline

Darwin Airline (airline code F7) is a regional airline with its head office on the grounds of Lugano Airport in Agno, Switzerland, near Lugano. 

On November 25 2010 Darwin announced it had entered into an agreement with fellow regional Swiss carrier Baboo, where Darwin would take over the routes currently operated by Baboo and purchase part of Baboo’s operational assets. This will eventually lead to the expansion of Darwin in the regional airline market.

Despite a general rebranding Darwin will continue to market some of its services under the Baboo brand.

According to the Darwin website the name originates from the idea that: "It is not the strongest species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one that is more abel to change, claimed Charles Darwin in the 19th century - a theory which in 2003 inspired the name Darwin Airline, now well known for a dynamic approach and the willingness to adapt to the needs of our passengers."

Ownership

Darwin was founded by a group of pilots and air transportation experts with the financial support of a selection of unnamed entrepreneurs. The current president is Sergio Ermotti with Fabio Parini as CEO. Neither Darwin or Baboo have released details as to the new ownership structure nor the terms of the tie-up. Darwin chief Fabio Parini said that the tie-up is in line with plans to sustain network growth, while his counterpart at Baboo, Mark Darby, added that the combination would "create a Swiss regional airline of great importance".

Route Network

Darwin flies a regional network serving in excess of 20 Swiss, Italian, French and other European destinations, operating a fleet of six SAAB 2000 and two Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft. To see where Darwin flies, click here.
