Brussels Airlines (airline code SN) is based at Brussels Airport, Belgium. It has a fleet of 48 short and long-haul aircraft and flies throughout Europe and Africa.

Ownership

Brussels Airlines sprang from the marriage of SN Brussels Airlines, the largest full-service Belgian airline and Virgin Express, Europe's first low-cost airline, in 2006. SN Brussels was originally set up to replace Sabena, the former Belgian flag-carrier, which collapsed in 2001.

Lufthansa bought a 45 per cent stake in Brussels Airlines in 2008 and has an option for a complete takeover within two years.

Route Network

Brussels Airlines is primarily a European regional airline, but it also has a network of routes throughout central, east and west Africa that is generally unique among European airlines. Many of these are former colonies. Among 14 African destinations are Kinshasa in Congo, Monrovia in Liberia, Kigali in Rwanda and Conakry in Guinea.
