Austrian's long-haul aircraft offer a seat pitch of 31.5 inches (80cm) in economy and a seat width of about 17 inches (44 cm). Seats recline to around 120 degrees.
In winter 2012/2013 Austrian Airlines will refit the cabins of its long-haul aircraft with new, modern Economy seats and a new in-flight entertainment system. The overall interior design of the aircraft will be given a new optical design, and adjusted to the colour concept of the new Europe cabin.
The core element of the new cabin is a completely redeveloped seat constructed from new, light materials. The seat’s innovative construction gives passengers up to 10 cm more space for the legs and knees.
The new seat, which is covered with high-value leather, also takes up less space, meaning an average of almost five more seats can be installed in each aircraft. It is between three and five kilos lighter than its predecessor which allows Austrian Airlines to reduce the overall weight of its aircraft, cutting kerosene consumption and providing an environmental benefit.
The colour of the new design differs clearly from the previous Austrian image. The seats and carpeting are to be in an elegant grey, set off by accents in a typically Austrian red.
During boarding, bottles of Austrian Vöslauer brand mineral water are offered. After take-off a welcome drink is served with savoury snacks followed by two different two-course DO & CO menus to choose from. Shortly before landing there is breakfast or a snack, depending on the time of day and throughout the entire flight there is a wide selection of beverages, including mineral water, Austrian wines, beer, coffee and tea or spirits.
Entertainment includes 12 audio channels and 10 computer games plus aerial images from the on board camera. On flights to Tokyo there is an extra selection of films in Japanese. Bollywood classics are on the programme on flights to India and films with Chinese subtitles are available on services to China.
