Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Air AsiaX (airline code D7) is a budget airline focusing on medium to long-haul routes across the Asia Pacific region. Since March 2009 it has been flying to London. Its parent company is Air Asia, Asia’s leading low-cost carrier.

Air AsiaX operates the Airbus A330-300 and two A340 aircraft. It has ordered 25 A330s. Air Asia has a fleet of 72 Airbus A320s.

Ownership

Air AsiaX is owned by a group of private investors, including Sir Richard Branson. Aero Ventures Sdn is the major shareholder, with 48%, Virgin Group has 16%, Air Asia staff 16%, Orix 10% and Manara Consortium 10%.

Route Network

Air Asia flies five flights a week from Kuala Lumpur to Stansted , offering a two-class cabin. It also operates to Australia's Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Hangzhou, near Shanghai.

Other Information

Air Asia operates from its own low-cost terminal at Kuala Lumpur, but note that this is some distance from the main airport, so allow plenty of time to transit if flying into the main terminal on other airlines. As with all no-frills airlines, food and drink must be paid for on board, even in the premium cabin. Blankets must also be purchased as part of an amenity kit which includes an inflatable pillow and eyeshade.
