westernranger flew Air Mauritius Economy (short-haul), on a A319-100 (19/09/2011 15:14)
Flew on a return flight Cape Town to Mauritius direct on an A319.
Only 30" seat pitch and very uncomfortable for someone with long legs like myself. My legs were jammed against the magazine rack and it was a 5hr flight.
Seats were also uncomfortable, otherwise very good all round.

Very nice lounge at Heathrow and also Mauritius. Good (but not overwhelming) food and champagne on board. Seat was very comfortable, both for relaxing / dining and sleeping. Boarding was efficient, avoiding the general stampede. Not as good a selection of films and music as on some carriers.

I flew air Mauritius on the LHR-MRU route and it was an absolute pleasure flying on them. The boarding was efficient and the cabin was clean and looked in top condition. The seats were comfortable but there was the IFE box under the seat so that took up some of your leg room. The IFE was good and they had a range of movies and games to play, the crew were very kind, they did have the Mauritian hospitality and they were there when you called for them, they handled everything very well. the food was okay but i remember air Mauritius's food being better than what it is now but there is a lot of drinks on offer. Overall it was a very good flight and the only let down of the fight for me was the turbulence which of course air Mauritius cant control. Will definitely fly by them again :)

HKG –MRU September 4, 2008 Business Class seat 3A
I browsed the Seat plans and did not see a review of Air Mauritius, so I thought I would add one even if it were over a year since I flew this delightful airline for the first time.
Check-in Hong Kong: There is a dedicated Business and elite check in line. This day the queue was 6 people long and took approximately 15 minutes to check in. The contract agents in HKG were professional and friendly, in spite of the number of people checking in at one time. A note on luggage allowances: The web site lists a 30kg allowance for Business class and 23kg for economy. The weight you are allowed is printed on the Air Mauritius ticket receipt. Please pay attention to it because from the chit chat I overhead in the line it appears that some discounted business class tickets may have a 23kg limit since they are upgrade fares. I my case I was traveling light on this trip.
Lounge: Please forgive me but I do not remember which lounge I was given an invitation to but I remember it being more than adequate and far superior to similar lounges in the US. The key point here is Air Mauritius does furnish a lounge pass for HKG.
Boarding: The gate I boarded through was one of the gates BA uses so there was an economy queue and a queue for business class. I arrived a few minutes after boarding started and there was no queue in the premium line, but quite a line for economy.
Seating: I was quite pleasantly surprised to see that the A 340-300 I boarded has the new “cocoon” seating. These seats are arranged 2-2-2 and have a 60” pitch. These are the angled “flat beds”. I found the seat quite comfortable and was able to sleep for a few hours after a nice lunch.
Entertainment: We were furnished with noise canceling headphones and there was a selection of movies and music. If I remember correctly this aircraft had an early version of AVOD with a 7-inch screen. I remember video quality as being acceptable and the sound quality good.
Food and Drink: After we were seated the flight attendant offered us Champaign, white wine and juice. The Champaign though not vintage Krug was quite nice and another pleasant surprise. Dinner was served course by course and the food just kept coming. After the appetizer and salad we were offered a choice of 3 mains. I selected an excellent chicken curry, but the fish also looked good. Dinner was followed by desert and Cognac. After a short nap the flight attendants were again sitting the tables for breakfast! The breakfast looked like, well: breakfast. I did not partake, but it looked well presented.
Arrival: We arrived on time into Mauritius. On this occasion we deplaned at a gate. I trust this is because we were flying on the national carrier. Other flights I have arrived on( BA and EK) have arrived at bus gates. I was transiting Mauritius onto Emirates to Dubai; NOTE: if you are transiting MRU DONOT go into the emigration line on the left. The woman security guard was guiding the group to emigration on my first trip through MRU and I missed the transit entrance, which is to the right. At the transit desk there may be only one agent. If you do not have your boarding pass for your connection but have checked your bags onward you do not have to go though immigration. Ask the person at the transit desk for the agent who handles your airline. Immigration takes 20-30 minutes in MRU.
Reservations: I made my reservations (August 2008) through the phone number on the Air Mauritius web site, which forwarded me to an office in southern California that was the GSA (General service AGENT) for Air Mauritius and Air Madagascar. The woman I spoke to was friendly and knowledgeable. When I called the same number in July of 2009 I was connected to call center in India. I found the India call center difficult to obtain prices and availability. In general they were incompetent and unhelpful. After several repeat calls I asked to speak to the person I spoke to that was listed on my ticket when I flew in 2008 and I was reluctantly transferred to her. In my opinion this call center is hurting business for Air Mauritius.
Conclusion: Air Mauritius offered the cheapest business class airfare that flew directly to Mauritius. The aircraft was clean the seats were comfortable the food was good and I felt I received a good value. Mauritius is a three-hour flight to JNB. Business class flights to JNB from Asia are at least twice as expensive and reasonably priced business class tickets require a trip through the Middle East with much longer trip times. Air Mauritius offers good service for a reasonable price on the sectors I flew.
