Air India

Air India (airline code AI) is the national airline for India with a worldwide network of passenger and cargo services. It is part of National Aviation Company of India Limited and is the only state-owned airline in the country. It was founded by J.R.D. Tata in 1932. To see Air India's main page, click here.

Ownership

A total of 40 per cent of Air India belongs to the government of India and 26 per cent belongs to foreign ownership.

Route Network

Its main bases are Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The airline connects 130 international and domestic destinations around the world, including 12 gateways in India with Air India Express, a fully-owned subsidiary of Air India. Other Information

Air India has a big aircraft order in progress. As well as eight ultra-long range Boeing 777-200LRs - part of the 68 strong-order placed in 2005 - there are also 15 B777-300ERs, 27 B787 Dreamliners and 18 narrow body B737-800s. 

Air India also has 43 Airbus aircraft on order including 20 A321s, 19 A319s and 4 A320s.

One of Air India's most important future plans is the joining of Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance.
