Air India (airline code AI) is the national airline for India with a worldwide network of passenger and cargo services. Ownership
A total of 40 per cent of Air India belongs to the government of India and 26 per cent belongs to foreign ownership.

Its main bases are Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The airline connects 130 international and domestic destinations around the world, including 12 gateways in India with Air India Express, a fully-owned subsidiary of Air India. Air India has a big aircraft order in progress. As well as eight
ultra-long range Boeing 777-200LRs - part of the 68 strong-order placed
in 2005 - there are also 15 B777-300ERs, 27 B787 Dreamliners and 18
narrow body B737-800s.
Air India also has 43 Airbus
aircraft on order -- 20 A321s, 19 A319s and 4 A320s -- twelve of which
have already been inducted.
One of Air India's most important future plans is the joining of Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance.
